“Happiness is a butterfly…”

Chasing Butterflies Book Cover

“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”
– Nathaniel Hawthorne

Set in rural America in the 1950’s, Chasing Butterflies revisits the author’s childhood days in his attempt to recapture its joy and charm. A small band of boys share adventures, some comical and some poignant, displaying the innocence, fearlessness, and mischievous living-in-the-moment spirit that once resided in him.

Several years ago I awoke from a dream in a fit of laughter.

Plato's PromiseThe dream was a cartoon about a little duck learning to fly and, let’s just say, things didn’t work out well for the little fellow. I laughed off and on for days and couldn’t get the images of that dream out of my head.

Finally, I decided to write the story down in an effort to purge it from my thoughts. Eighteen months later my first novel was written. The story does not incorporate the dream I had but it does capture the spirit of the little duck. I was reading Greek and Roman philosophy at the time and some of the values, life lessons, and insight to human nature are captured in what I believe is a unique and enlightening book.
